 HRI Award Winners  The annual Irish Horse Racing Awards were hosted by Horse Racing Ireland today in the Leopardstown Pavilion, Dublin. The awards which are in their ninth year are voted on by the Irish Racing Media to recognise excellence in the sport of horse racing. Among the 180 guests were Mr Simon Coveney, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, who presented the six awards.

Racing from Limerick to Cheltenham was the theme of the evening as some stars of the turf turned out in force to raise funds for Pieta House Limerick and the Injured Jockeys Fund. Jockeys Andrew McNamara, Ken Whelan, Brian O’ Connell and Derek O’ Connor rode the race horse simulator to Cheltenham along members of the public to try their luck

HRI Go Racing Kids Club at Fairyhouse Racecourse

FairyhouseKidsClubHorse Racing Ireland (HRI) held a ‘Go Racing Kids’ Club’ Day at Fairyhouse Racecourse yesterday (Tuesday 29th November). There were 143 pupils (3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class) from local schools in attendance who took part in demonstrations from RACE (Racing Academy & Centre of Education) and heard talks from Jockey Nina Carberry and local Trainer Robbie Hennessy. Robbie was kind enough to bring along one of his horses called Donegal for the benefit of the children.

HRI_LOGO_WITH_WEBDue to the GAA Finals being moved a week later than their normal dates in September next year (All Ireland Senior Hurling Final on Sunday 9th September rather than Sunday 2nd September and All Ireland Senior Football Final on Sunday September 23rd rather than Sunday 16th September), there will be a small number of changes to the 2012 Fixture List to avoid clashes that might be detrimental to racecourse attendances.

 Sonya Lennon - Gillian Walsh  Off The Rails presenter Sonya Lennon and Gillian Walsh, wife of champion jockey Ruby were today announced as the judges of the Irish Tatler Most Stylish Lady competition sponsored by Mount Juliet on Lexus Chase Day which is at Leopardstown on Wednesday 28th December 2011. They were joined on the day by Irish Tatler’s Sportswoman of the Year and top jockey Katie Walsh.

 Davy Russell  Horse Racing Ireland today announced that top jump jockey Davy Russell is to be HRI’s National Hunt Ambassador for the 2011/12 season, following in the footsteps of Champion Trainer Willie Mullins and Jockey Barry Geraghty. Davy was joined today by his weighroom colleagues David Casey and Andrew McNamara who, like Davy, are all taking part in Movember.
