This Festival consists of three days of top quality Flat and National Hunt racing in Mallow over the Easter Holiday weekend. Cork is undoubtedly the home of National Hunt racing and its historic association with racing goes back a long way. In fact only a few miles from the racecourse was the scene of a historic match race between two sporting Cork gentlemen who wanted to find out which of their horses was the better. They arranged a 4½ mile race cross country from the steeple of St John’s Church in Buttevant to that of St Mary’s in Doneraile, and from this the term “steeplechasing” was coined!
At the Easter Festival in Cork, you get the best of both worlds with a mix of Flat and National Hunt over the three days with the highlights of the Festival being the Listed Imperial Call Chase (won in 2010 by Philip Redmond-trained Florida Express) and the Grade C Easter Handicap Hurdle (won in 2010 by the Eric McNamara-trained Questions Answered).
