Wednesday, 29 August 2012 - Saturday, 1 September 2012
The inaugural running of the four-day Killarney August Festival took place in August 2009. Deservedly billed as one of the most picturesque tracks anywhere in the world, there are few better places to spend a summer evening than at Killarney. With the famous Killarney Lakes right next to the racecourse, many people opt to take a scenic walk before racing to relax their minds before heading to the races.
The festival, which consists of four evening meetings, is headlined by the Listed Ruby Stakes on the Tuesday. A race that always tends to attract a high-class runner or two, the 2010 renewal was won by the Aidan O’Brien-trained Steinbeck. Thursday evening features the Grade C Owens McCarthy Claims Specialists Handicap Chase and the 2010 renewal was won by the Eugene O’Sullivan-trained Head Waiter.
