Sunday, 16 September 2012 - Saturday, 22 September 2012
These seven days combine to make up the last major festival of the Summer and also the last “big one” before Christmas, so make the most of the festivities! Traditionally, this was the festival where the local farmers came to celebrate the recent harvest and it is still very much a country mans occasion.
There is a great mix of National Hunt and Flat racing through the course of the week, with the highlight being the Guinness Kerry National Chase on Wednesday. A very competitive three mile handicap chase that has a long tradition, subsequent Aintree Grand National winner Monty’s Pass was successful in the 2002 renewal. The 2010 renewal saw the Charles Byrnes-trained Alfa Beat take the spoils.
Friday is Ladies Day, with excellent prizes on offer and a great opportunity to get the last of the glad rags out. The Guinness Handicap Hurdle is the feature event and often attracts horses which have competed in the Galway Hurdle a couple of months earlier.
