• Gowran Park - Saturday

Nap of the day – Mine Now (4.15)

    1.20 – Bachasson - www.gowranpark.ie Beginners Chase – Win

Bachasson is just about the one to side with. He ran a big race until falling at the final fence on his chasing debut at Thurles in early December and certainly built on that when chasing home Edwulf at Punchestown a month ago. He finished four lengths clear of today’s rival Mall Dini in that event and Mall Dini was beaten again when second to Great Field over the minimum trip here three weeks ago. Jett improved on his performance at Cork at the beginning of January when finishing a fine second to Yorkhill at Leopardstown last time. That was his best effort over fences and he should reach the frame ahead of Lasoscar and General Principle.

    Exacta – 1-8 (Bachasson/Mall Dini) Trifecta – 1-8-5 (Bachasson/Mall Dini/Jett)

    1.55 – Ballycasey - Grade 2 Red Mills Chase – Win

Ballycasey has already tasted Graded success over the course and distance and looks the likely winner. He easily beat Road To Riches to win the Grade 2 PWC Champion Chase here in October and that is the standout piece of form on offer. He is favoured by the weights and is chosen ahead of Clarcam who bounced back to form when winning over a trip close to this at Clonmel last time. Mozoltov was running for the first time in 11 months when a faller behind Douvan at Cork in December but he should be a clear third best on the form he showed this time last year. Montys Meadow will love the ground but has a mountain to climb at the weights.

    Exacta – 1-2 (Ballycasey/Clarcam) Trifecta – 1-2-3 (Ballycasey/Clarcam/Mozoltov)

2.30 – Garrai Phaidin - At The Races Careys Cottage Handicap Chase – Each/Way

Garrai Phaidin makes plenty of appeal. He is running consistently well and drops back in trip after fine efforts at Thurles, Fairyhouse and Punchestown in recent months. It will be disappointing if he can't reach the frame at least and he is preferred to both Definite Ruby, a winner over hurdles at Punchestown last month, and Winter Magic who scored in good style at Thurles. Lisclogher Lad is another running well and he is another to consider.

    Exacta – 11-2 (Garrai Phaidin/Definite Ruby) Trifecta – 11-2-4 (Garrai Phaidin/Definite Ruby/Winter Magic)

    3.05 – Jezki - Grade 3 Red Mills Trial Hurdle – Win

Jezki is head and shoulders above these and it will be a shock if he can't add to his recent Navan success. He was returning from an absence of close to 20 months when winning in good style from Renetti and this afternoon’s rival Tombstone on that occasion and will surely be better again now. Race conditions certainly favoured him that day and the he is favoured by the weights again here. The former Champion hurdler perhaps has most to fear from Tombstone but that rival has the best part of three lengths to find on the Navan run, although he is 6lbs better off. Rashaan beat Apple’s Jade and Petit Mouchoir to win at Down Royal in November and while he followed up on the Flat at Dundalk a week ago, he has a 9lbs penalty to contend with.

    Exacta – 2-4 (Jezki/Tombstone) Trifecta – 2-4-1 (Jezki/Tombstone/Rashaan)

3.40 – Dandy Mag - Sea Moon & Shantou At Burgage Stud Maiden Hurdle – Win

Dandy Mag is the latest arrival from France to turn out for the champion trainer and he might have the winning of this. He had two starts in bumpers in his native land and went close on both occasions and should go well on his jumping debut. Leomar has been a beaten favourite on each of his two starts in Ireland but his form looks solid enough and he gets the vote to chase the selection home. Lachares will probably need to improve on his recent efforts to figure but he should be third best ahead of Papal Motel and Bracklin Princess.

    Exacta – 7-12 (Dandy Mag/Leomar) Trifecta – 7-12-11 (Dandy Mag/Leomar/Lachares)

4.15 – Mine Now - Live Music After Racing Handicap Hurdle – Each/Way

Mine Now is surely entitled to improve on his run at Punchestown on New Year's Eve and should go well again. He was running for the first time since the Galway festival in July when a close second to Duke Cass that day and the form of that race is certainly working out well. Concordin was second on his first start of the season at Navan in November and built on that to win at Leopardstown on St Stephen's Day. He is probably the one to beat but another to consider must be top-weight Notwhatiam who was a good winner over the course and distance last month. Shamiran is absent since the Listowel festival in September and a bigger danger might be Asitsohappens who wasn’t beaten all that far at Naas last time. Wishmoor runs in his first handicap hurdle and might play a part.

    Exacta – 2-10 (Mine Now/Concordin) Trifecta – 2-10-1 (Mine Now/Concordin/Notwhatiam)

4.50 – Blixt - EBF Ronan Lawlor Memorial Mares INH Flat Race – Win

Blixt, a half-sister to the great Hurricane Fly, is likely to be the one here. She is running for the first time but represents the champion combination and those with form look vulnerable. Good To Flow was beaten a fair way when eighth over hurdles at Fairyhouse last time but is better judged on earlier starts at Navan and Limerick. Mistheatre also ran over hurdles on her most recent start and certainly outran her price of 100/1 on that occasion. She should go well and probably represents a greater threat than Trumps Ace who hasn’t run since a good effort behind Bobarlee at Sligo in July. Miss Sassie also makes some appeal.

    Exacta – 4-3 (Blixt/Good To Flow) Trifecta – 4-3-12 (Blixt/Good To Flow/Miss Sassie)
