From Kilberry, County Kildare and a graduate of RACE, Robert Smithers was 18 when he partnered his first winner, Castle Guest, for Michael Halford at the Curragh on August 7th, 2016. Robert's father Bobby was World Freshwater Angling Champion in 1984 and Robert himself won the World Junior Championship in 2010. He was also a member of the Irish team that beat England, Scotland and Wales to win the Celtic Cup in the same year.
