The Big Lense opened his account over fences with victory in the valuable Kerry Group Handicap Chase on the first day of the Harvest Festival at Listowel.
Gordon Elliott’s six-year-old had frequently promised much, and the 10-1 chance found the right time to show his very best in the 40,000 euro feature.
Running off a lowly rating, Luke Dempsey travelled into the contest very smoothly on the JP McManus-owned gelding.
There were still a couple of others in with chances approaching the final fence as Father Jed on the far side and Cabaret Queen sensed an opening.
But The Big Lense pulled out plenty after the last and the 10-1 chance won by two and a quarter lengths from Cabaret Queen.
Dempsey said: “I thought I got there too soon and when he got to the front he had a good look, but he jumped well.
“I had only ridden him once and he gave me a great spin around there.”
