John Murphy is targeting Irish Champions Weekend with War Diary.
The lightly-raced four-year-old beat Sea The Lion in the Ragussa Handicap at the Curragh in June and ran a fine race at Galway recently.
He finished fourth behind Mr Adjudicator in the Guinness Handicap from a wide draw and Murphy feels there is still more to come.
“He ran a very good race. He didn’t handle the track very well, the jockey (Robbie Colgan) said, he found it a bit undulating as he’s such a big horse.
“He’s never run a bad race. It’s upwards and onwards now and we’ll look for some of the nice handicaps with him.
“We’re looking towards Irish Champions Weekend, he’ll have entries in both the 10-furlong and mile-and-a-half races and if we can get him into one of them that would be his game.
“He’ll be much better suited to galloping track. If you’re not drawn well at Galway it’s over and out.”
Murphy confirmed that Shared Ambition, winner of two of his three starts this season, has been sold to Australia and will join Chris Waller.
