• Sligo - Wednesday

Last year’s winner Benefit Run arrives in good form after a cracking run at the Galway Festival and holds every chance in the Frank O’Beirne Memorial Handicap Chase at Sligo on Wednesday.

Ross O’Sullivan’s charge was an easy winner of this contest twelve months ago and runs here off a 3lb higher mark than when chasing home Abbey Magic at Galway.

That run was a nice bounce back to form and a reproduction of that effort may be more than enough to land the feature. He seems to hold an edge over a few of these who have plenty of questions to answer, and Conor Orr’s mount likes it around Sligo, which is always vitally important. Grange Walk is feared most.

Antey deserves plenty of respect with a rating of 136, but with questions marks still lying over his jumping, Fancy Foundations is a safer alternative in the Templehouse Lake Chase (4.15). Gordon Elliot’s charge won readily on chasing debut at Down Royal in May, and has previously won twice after lay-offs, so the break is of no concern.

Just A Normal Day has been right in the mix on his last few chase starts and can run close again off a nice mark in the Owenmore Handicap Chase (3.45). He was only beaten 3 lengths into fourth at Downpatrick on his last start and his mark remains unchanged at 98, with Paul Cawley booked to take off 7lbs in the plate. He looks in good form over the larger obstacles and can go one better now.

Action gets underway with the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Beginners Chase (1.35) with She Tops The Lot the one to side with. Henry De Bromhead’s mare brings plenty of chase experience to the table and this looks a winnable assignment, with Manitopark AA leaving lots to be desired. The Sliding Rock perhaps looks the best of the rest.

Henry De Bromhead may well open the card with a double should Alice Avril settle better than at Tramore last time, she’s the one to beat in the Leo McMorrow Memorial Novice Handicap Chase (2.10). She tore away and won comfortably at Roscommon before being reeled at Tramore on her last start. She holds bundles of ability and if JJ Slevin can settle her early, she’ll be hard to beat.

Wa Wa beat everything bar a smart favourite at Ballinrobe on chasing debut and a reproduction of that run should be enough to land the Brenda Anderson Memorial Beginners Chase (3.15). David Christie’s son of Yeat’s showed modest form over hurdles but looked rejuvenated when taking to fences and if able to back up his last run, he’ll be hard to beat in the hands of Denis O’Regan.

It's very hard to oppose Favori Logique in the concluding Riverstown Handicap Chase (4.50). After a quick double over hurdles, Ross O’Sullivan’s charge destroyed his rivals at Ballinrobe when switched back to fences. Shane O’Callaghan is back in the plate and he should some stopping.

Selections: 1.35 She Tops The Lot; 2.10 Alice Avril; 2.40 Benefit Run (NAP); 3.15 Wa Wa; 3.45 Just A Normal Day; 4.15 Fancy Foundations; 4.50 Favori Logique.
