Horse and jockey flying at Thurles racecourse

Thurles racecourse is located only a few kilometres from Thurles town centre. Jokingly and affectionately referred to as ‘Ireland’s first all-weather racecourse’, it is a rarity to see Thurles racecourse losing a race meeting, even in the depths of Winter when many of the track’s meetings take place.

The only privately-owned racecourse in the country it hosts both flat and jump racing with the right-handed track consisting of one and a quarter mile. With the vast majority of meetings taking place on Thursday afternoons, the annual Sunday meeting before Christmas is well attended by many.

Thurles Racecourses is a cosy local track with the main bar situated beside the parade ring and the restaurant adjacent to the bar offers an exciting atmosphere in cosy surroundings.
