Did you know?
From Ballingarry, County Limerick, a young Billy Lee can been see in action in the Castletown Donkey Derby in 1994 in the infamous clip on YouTube! Billy looked quite a promising rider over hurdles back in 2005/6, with the highlight coming on the Tommy Stack-trained Wanango in the Listed Gordon Plant Memorial Newton Novices' Hurdle at Haydock. Not long after that he refocused his attentions on the Flat with tremendous success.Â
He recorded his first Group 1 win on Fiesolana, trained by Willie McCreery, in the Matron Stakes at the inaugural Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown in September, 2014 and has enjoyed a great number of high profile victories a long the way. Billy rode his second Royal Ascot winner on the David Marnane-trained Settle For Bay in the Royal Hunt Cup Handicap on Wednesday 20, 2018. His first had come five years earlier in the Britannia Handicap which he won on the Joanna Morgan-trained Roca Tumu.Â
