Did you know?
From Summerhill, County Meath, Robbie is a son of the famous Irish show jumper Captain Con Power. He shot to international prominence when winning the Aintree Grand National on the Gordon Elliott-trained Silver Birch in 2007. He rode his first winner at the Cheltenham Festival when Bostons Angel, trained by Jessica Harrington, landed the RSA Chase in 2011. Nearly A Moose was a notable early winner in his career when successful in the Galway Plate for legendary trainer Paddy Mullins in 2003.
Robbie was champion conditional jockey at the end of the 2003/2004 season and has certainly enjoyed a hugely successful career as a senior rider. He gained a second Cheltenham Festival winner when the Jessica Harrington-trained Supasundae won the Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle on Wednesday, March 15th, 2017. Another huge success came his way just two days later when he won the Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup on Jessica Harrington's Sizing John. He rounded off the 2017 Cheltenham Festival when partnering the Harrington-trained Rock The World to win the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Handicap Chase.
Robbie was the leading rider at the 2017 Aintree Festival just weeks later and he landed his biggest success on the domestic front when landing the BoyleSports Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday on the Jessica Harrington-trained Our Duke.Â
