Did You Know: Â
Danny is a son of successful trainers Tony Mullins and Mags Mullins. He was a star on the pony racing circuit, riding 126 winners.
Danny finished second and third in the race for the title of Champion Apprentice in his first two years on the track, rising weight led to him taking more and more rides over jumps. He has had no shortage of big-race success in his career and rather unusually, he has ridden a winner for both his mother and his father on the same card on more than one occasion.
Danny rode a treble on the Flat at the Galway festival on August 1, 2008, a treble over hurdles at Wexford on June 17, 2015 and a treble over fences at Sligo on September 28, 2016.Â
The likes of the Willie Mullins-trained Tornado Flyer (King George VI Chase) and Kemboy (Irish Gold Cup), the Philip Fenton-trained The Tullow Tank, Gordon Elliott's Mount Benbulben, Willie Mullins' Airlie Beach, Felix Younger, Footpad, Saldier, Asterion Forlonge and Colreevy have all been Grade 1 winners for Danny. He has enjoyed notable handicap success over fences with horses such as Faltering Fullback (Eric McNamara) and Willie Mullins' Total Recall and on the Flat with the Mullins-trained Riven Light and Rock And Roll Kid, trained by his father Tony.Â
Danny won a listed hurdle at Auteuil, France on Fujimoto Flyer which was trained by his cousin Emmet and Thomas Hobson (Willie Mullins) was a big winner he rode in England. His first winner at the Cheltenham Festival came in 2021 when he landed the Stayers' Hurdle on the Gavin Cromwell-trained Flooring Porter. Danny stepped in as an 11th hour replacement for Jonathan Moore who declared himself unfit to ride the horse on the morning of the race.Â
Mullins won the Stayers' Hurdle on Flooring Porter for a second time in 2022.Â
