From Coleraine, County Derry, Jody McGarvey rode his first winner on the Christy Roche-trained Code Of The West at Down Royal in February, 2012. His breakthrough horse was very much the Willie Mullins-trained Great Field which gave Jody his first Grade 1 success in the Ryanair Novice Chase at the Punchestown festival in 2017.Â
Jody enjoyed notable success on the likes of Western Boy, Plinth, Ballyoisin and Espoir D'allen and gained a second Grade 1 victory when the Shark Hanlon-trained Skyace won the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final at Fairyhouse on Easter Sunday 2021. For good measure he added to his Grade 1 haul when partnering the Willie Mullins-trained Janidil to take the Underwriting Exchange Gold Cup Novice Chase on the same card less than two hours later.Â
