Gary Halpin is from Blanchardstown in Dublin and he was 17 when he rode his first winner on Master Melody for trainer Kevin Prendergast in December, 2011. He had finished second on the same horse on his first ride in public just three weeks earlier and won on him for a second time later in the same month.

Gary has enjoyed great success in a number of valuable handicaps throughout his career. Vastonea gave him a notable early winner at the Galway festival when taking the Topaz Mile Handicap in 2014 for his boss Kevin Prendergast and closer to home, the Denis Hogan-trained Tithonus gave him two big wins at the Curragh. He rode a winner at Longines Irish Champions Weekend on the Kevin Ryan-trained Kelinni in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF 'Sovereign Path' Handicap.

Gary rode his 95th career winner and lost his claim on the Johnny Feane-trained Regem in the Budweiser Maiden at Roscommon on Monday, July 9, 2018.
