From Naas, County Kildare, Tom Madden is from a family steeped in racing tradition. He is a son of former National Hunt jockey and current trainer Niall Madden and a brother of Grand National winning-jockey Niall 'Slippers' Madden. Tom is a grandson of Toss Taaffe, brother of Arkle's jockey Pat Taaffe, who was champion National Hunt jockey in Ireland in 1956 and 1957.

Susiescot, trained by his uncle Willie McCreery, was Tom's first winner at Cork on October 19, 2013. Exactly five years later, Tom enjoyed his greatest day when recording his first treble, Red Charmer, Pulsating and Echo Park, for trainers Marjorie Fife, Conor O'Dwyer and Jessica Harrington at Dundalk, reducing his claim to 3lbs in the process. 

Tom Madden rode out his claim with success on the William Ross-trained Everyhouronthehour at Dundalk in November 2019 and a first Listed winner arrived when he won the Irish Stallion Farm EBF Salsabil Stakes on the Jessica Harrington-trained Silence Please at Navan on June 10 of the following year.
