From Kilmacow, County Kilkenny, Hugh rode his first winner on the Henry De Bromhead-trained Babbling Stream in the Seamus Mulvaney Crockafotha Handicap Hurdle at Bellewstown on Friday, July 6, 2018. Hugh is based full-time with De Bromhead and had worked for Jim Bolger previously. 

Hugh made the headlines with his winning effort on the Denis Hogan-trained Young Dev in a three-mile handicap chase at Navan on February 21, 2021. His right stirrup broke after jumping the first fence and he was left without irons for 16 more fences and the best part of three miles. Not only did Morgan manage to remain on board, he brought the 17/2 shot with a perfectly timed challenge to beat the Brian McMahon-trained Se Mo Laoch by three-parts of a length. Morgan commented on the day, “I didn’t really think about pulling up because I felt comfortable and he’s a safe old jumper. It was great, something new anyway. It was my first ride for Denis, so it was very important to get the win.”
