From Athenry, County Galway, Pat Kelly enjoyed considerable success at his local course at Galway much earlier in his training career where he won the Galway Hurdle in 1992 with Natalies Fancy and again three years later with No Tag. While he did train winners in the intervening years, he didn’t enjoy another success of that calibre until Mall Dini, ridden by Davy Russell, won the Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 2016. He won the same race 12 months later with Presenting Percy who like Mall Dini, is owned by Philip Renyolds, and was ridden by Davy Russell. Presenting Percy returned to Cheltenham in 2018 and won the RSA Novices' Chase, a remarkable third Festival winner in three years for a small stable.
