Willie McCreery played gaelic football at the highest level for his native Kildare and was an integral part of the team when Kildare won their first senior Leinster title in 42 years in 1998. His father, Peter, trained Hilly Way to win two successive Champion Chases at Cheltenham, and Daring Run to claim two Irish Champion Hurdles. Willie worked for many years with trainer Charles O'Brien before taking out his own licence in the 2008/2009 season. Never far from the winners' enclosure, McCreery gained his first Group 1 success when Fiesolana won the Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on September 13th, 2014.
