From Cloughjordan, County Tipperary, Denis Hogan began his career as a jockey with trainer Charlie Swan and was still riding when taking out his own trainer's licence in 2009. Indeed, he partnered his first winner as a trainer himself when Kylebeg Krystle won at Thurles in January, 2010. 

Denis has made his name as a successful dual-purpose trainer and is closing in on 200 winners. He has enjoyed no shortage of notable success with the likes of multiple winners Tithonus, Inis Meain, Jack The Wire, Allegio and Youcantcallherthat but easily the best horse he has trained is the sprinter Sceptical, a £2,800 purchase at the Horse-In-Training Sale at Newmarket in August 2019.
