    Downpatrick Racecourse is the oldest racecourse in Ireland, with racing first taking place over 330 years ago! Racing takes place from March to October and Downpatrick is one of three racecourses that only stages National hunt (jump) racing.


    Downpatrick has a reputation for being one of the friendliest racecourses to visit, with themed race days such as Ladies Day and Family Day adding to the lively atmosphere. The Ulster National is a recognised trial for the Irish Grand National and is a must-see event for any social or sporting enthusiast.

  • How To Get There

    By Road:
    From Dublin you can take the M1 from Dublin to Newry then A1 to Lisburn. This is the quickest route but has tolls. Downpatrick is 35km of Belfast, take the A2. 

     

    By Bus:
    Bus Eireann have a bus from Dublin-Newry-Downpatrick. For more details see www.buseireann.ie

    By Rail:
    High-speed trains run from Belfast to Dublin, stopping at Lisburn

    By Air:
    Nearest Airport is Belfast International.
