From Letterkenny, County Donegal, Dylan Browne McMonagle rode 218 winners on the pony racing circuit. Crowned national champion on two occasions, he won the Dingle Derby as a 12-year-old in 2015, a record at the time, and subsequently featured in a short film about that success called Five Stone Of Lead. Tony McCoy took an interest in his career and Browne McMonagle was invited by the 20-time British Champion jockey to visit him in England. The teenager also spent time at the British Racing School. A talented sportsman, he is also an All-Ireland boys' boxing champion. 

Dylan Browne McMonagle signed up as an apprentice with Joseph O'Brien in the middle of the 2019 Flat season and finished second on his first racecourse start at Gowran Park. He was 16 years of age when riding his first winner as an apprentice on the O'Brien-trained Jumellea at Navan on October 9, 2019. 

Dylan rode his first Group-race winner when taking the Group 3 Vintage Crop Stakes on the Joseph O'Brien-trained Baron Samedi at Navan in April 2021. It was his first ride in a Group race. 

Dylan was crowned champion apprentice at the end of the 2021 season. He rode 48 winners to win the title by 15 from Mikey Sheehy and was the winner of the Emerging Talent Award at the annual Horse Racing Ireland Awards that year.
