A fine amateur rider with almost 150 winners to his name, Robbie McNamara suffered a career-ending injury in his fledgling season in the professional ranks at Wexford in April, 2015. He emulated his father Andrew and his brother of the same name and fulfilled a lifelong promise to himself when taking out his trainer's licence 14 months later and enjoyed a dream start to his new career when his first runner, Chadic, won the Mallow Maiden Hurdle under Conor Brassil at Cork on Friday, July 8th, 2016. For good measure, he completed a double on his first day with a licence when Rathcannon won the bumper on the same card under Finny Maguire.
Robbie trained 11 winners in Ireland before deciding to leave the training ranks in November 2018.Â
